Mike's First Paper

During the last decade the world has experienced a change that has brought the population into a new lifestyle regarding technology that will never be limited again. The amount of freedom that the Internet allows us is incredible to think about. Talking about our nations freedom spreads to the entire world when talking about the use of the InternetWhat do you mean?. From schoolwork, to social networking, to entertainment the Internet has proven to be a lifestyle change to everyone who uses it. In the majority of different lifestylesBroad generalization, consider being more definite. the use of the Internet proves to be a huge factor, whether you’re a businessman always on call, a college student trying to write a paper, or a high school student trying to figure our what your friends are doing for the weekend. Through these examples, it shows that the Internet is highly needed and should be expanded for the convenience of the users.

For the majority of people under the age of twenty-four22-Use numbers when the number is bigger than ten. You also probably meant 22., schoolwork seems to be the most important thing on their mind. In the times of the twenty first century, the large portion of schoolwork is done on a computer. No matter what someone is doing on the computer they always go on the Internet. It may be to check e-mail, send e-mail, do some research for school, listen to music, or even look up videos on you tubeYouTube. This to some people,to some people, is a sign that the Internet is taking over how we do things and what we are thinking at times. Nicholas Carr states “Over the past few years I’ve had an uncomfortable sense that someone, or something, has been tinkering with my brain, remapping the neural circuitry, reprogramming the memory.”1 Carr explains how he absolutely loves the Internet in his profession as a writer but has noticed that his thought process has changed just as quickly as he turned to loving the Internet. In most aspects of life the Internet has taken over the place of hard copy literature especially with newspapers. But is this enough to get by on?

Most will say yes to the question, but others, others feel that there must be a stronger signal for maximum use of the Internet all over the place. We have already started a little to make adjustments for those who are in desperate need. For businessmen there are blackberries. A blackberry is a phone that comes with full Internet access along with the capability to receive and send e-mail from the exact same device. The best part about this is the fact that there are no cords that are needed to plug into. It has complete wireless access. What happened to the businessmen and why do they need the increased signal? This also has spread to the social network area. Many high school and college students are also switching over to the new technology of a blackberry. The main reason behind this is to add the face bookFacebook application, which updates can be made from your phone at any point. Along with this is a new form of text messaging called black berry messenger. This is so popular because it is a way to talk to other people with blackberrys for free. It works by being connected over the Internet so the message is received much quicker than over a text. The best part about it is the fact that it is free.Changed the subject and did not explain your desperate need comment.

Even though the new technology covers the majority of the question, the classroom still provides much confusion. It is very hard to use online sources like OAK and Blackboard without the use of Internet in class. But the problem with the use of Internet in class is the thought that all of the students will spend their time on the Internet playing games or listening to music. There can be two solutions to this on going problem. One can be to not use the Internet to give out assignments. The other would be to strengthen the signal around campus because there is much confusion caused when things are not explained in full detail over the Internet. The second reason is off topic. Carr would say that handing out hard copies of everything would be much more beneficial to the students. He states “Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I’d spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose. That’s rarely the case anymore.”2Why did you separate the paragraphs here?

I strongly disagree with this statement. I feel that the Internet has provided me with much more concentration and discipline while reading. Over my years in the class room there has always been face book, you tube, and itunesFacebook, YouTube, and iTunes. The will to learn lies within yourself and if you are off on some other site listening to music or watching videos it is your own fault. If you truly want to learn from a source then you will read it fully and carefully. If students do not want to discipline themselves to read a long book or article they will have to learn to adapt. This is because there is a necessity to do research and to be able to comprehend long topics as you advance in life, especially in the classroom. A strong example of this is the transition of online newspapers. You switch subjects from talking about concentration to buying newspapers in print vs online. It is purely a convenience to have the newspaper online because it saves a trip to the store and it also saves money. This helps even more because much of research can come from the newspaper. It is a very useful resource and when its one o’clock in the morning and you need a newspaper the stores will not be open for you, but the Internet will be. If you’re in the middle of a history project and you need an article on Pearl Harbor, you can access certain newspapers from that time era. It is unbelievable what the Internet can do for everyone. Of course there is the guilt of not paying these people for their work but there are also sites where you have to pay a monthly fee, which is completely fineConsider taking this sentence out, not on subject. This really shows how important the Internet has grown to be in the past few years.

The necessity not only lives in the business world but also on college campuses. For example, I have been struggling with the access in my own dorm room and it is very frustrating to deal with especially for those who are just learning how to live on their own. When something goes wrong it is very hard to figure out what to do since everyone is nervous about being away from his or her parents. The worst part about having trouble with Internet access in dorm rooms is the fact that all of our homework revolves around the use of the Internet. We have wonderful tools such as OAK and Blackboard. They both tell us all about our homework like when its due what it is and even has everything planned out for the whole semester. It seems to be a problem when you cannot access this though. The frustration builds when professors don’t understand that you couldn’t access the Internet because it is told that everywhere on campus gets wirelesses InternetTangent.. Well maybe that’s true but the signal is not very strong and simply should be improved because the Internet is there for our convenience but realistically it is not convenient at all. Internet is necessary, because you don't have the right homework information?

After all of the distractions are passed by, the Internet truly is something that everyone can take advantage of. Yes, you tube and face bookYouTube and Facebook are awesome sites and are a main reason for Internet use, but it has more depth than that. Using the web for research is the most convenient and efficient way to do a school project. Without it most of us students would be lost in a world of endless pages of what we feel like is useless knowledge. People of all ages benefit from the Internet proving that it needs to be expanded in several different ways. With strong will power and discipline we can all learn to stay focused on a topic even with all of the distractions on a computer. Through the expansion of the Internet, the world will continue to progress into and through the next century.A lot of conclusions in this conclusion

I would go back through this and try to take all of the tangents, that would help a lot with focusing on the topic. Also, I would make your examples either more serious or tone down the seriousness and urgency implied.
There are a lot of generalizations in this paper that I might try to focus more on. This would take away from the hear-say feeling and add to the papers length and arguments.
